Clarinet - Emma Johnson

One of the few clarinettists to have established a busy international career as a soloist, Emma Johnson has performed to acclaim throughout the world and has sold a third of a million CDs.

Emma began to study the clarinet at the age of nine. In 1984 she won the BBC Television Young Musician of the Year Competition and was a medal winner in the European Young Musician competition televised throughout Europe. In 1991 she was a winner of the Young Concert Artist Auditions in New York. She studied Music and English at Cambridge University and was recently the first woman to be awarded an honorary fellowship at Pembroke College. Emma has given masterclasses all over the world and was a visiting professor at the Royal College of Music. She was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 1996.

Emma has appeared as soloist with many leading orchestras including the London Symphony, Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, Hallé, Tokyo Philharmonic, Salzburg Camerata and Netherlands Philharmonic in repertoire that includes over forty different concertos. A new development in her career has seen her being invited not only to direct from the clarinet but also to conduct orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Mozart Players. Rock Guitar - Hugh Burns

Hugh Burns is a guitarist and a composer with an acclaimed international reputation. He has worked with many top artists including George Michael, Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. As a studio guitarist, he has played on many film soundtracks including The Full Monty and Die Another Day. He has written music for television documentaries and films, published several guitar instruction books (available on Amazon) and released six solo albums. He is a highly regarded teacher and a member of the Visiting Faculty of the London based Institute of Contemporary Music Performance.

Classical Guitar - Gary Ryan

Gary Ryan, one of the finest guitarists in the UK, is Professor of the guitar at the Royal College of Music and is much in demand as a concert performer on the international circuit (see www.garyryan.co.uk for more about Gary).
